Is Dubai Safe to Visit in 2026? A Licensed Tour Operator's Honest Answer
Short answer: yes. Dubai is widely regarded as a very safe city for visitors, with low levels of street crime, a visible police presence, well-lit public spaces and a modern, reliable transport network. Families, couples and solo travellers explore the city day and night. Like anywhere, though, Dubai has its own laws and customs, and a little preparation goes a long way.
Before you fly, check your own government's current travel advisory for the UAE; it is the most up-to-date source for your nationality and the place to confirm entry rules. Once you arrive, staying safe is mostly about respecting local norms: dress modestly in malls, souks and heritage areas, and cover arms, legs and (for women) hair at mosques such as Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Drink alcohol only in licensed hotels, bars and restaurants, never be drunk in public, keep affection low-key and ask before photographing people.
For most visitors, the real risks in Dubai aren't crime. They're the midday summer sun, dehydration and booking activities with unlicensed operators. Plan around those three and you can travel with real peace of mind.UD Tours Team
Medication deserves special attention. The UAE controls certain prescription and over-the-counter medicines, including some strong painkillers, sleeping tablets and ADHD treatments. Carry any medicine in its original packaging with a copy of your prescription, and check the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention's latest guidance before you travel, as some controlled medicines need approval in advance.
Heat, Desert and Getting Around: Staying Safe Beyond the City Streets
From roughly June to September, daytime temperatures often pass 40°C, so plan outdoor sightseeing for early morning or evening, carry water and use sunscreen. In the desert, book dune bashing only with a DTCM-licensed operator using trained drivers and well-maintained 4x4s, and keep your seatbelt on. To get around, use RTA taxis, the Dubai Metro or a pre-booked licensed transfer.
What precautions should you take in Dubai?
- Check your government's travel advisory first
- Carry prescriptions for any medication
- Dress modestly at mosques and heritage sites
- Use RTA taxis, the Metro or licensed transfers
